The first day of school for students was August 14th. If you see on your schedule that I am one of your teachers, I need you to bring a composition book with you to my class. Other items you might want to have are markers or map pencils or crayons or a mix of these items. You may also want, but do not have to have stickers to decorate your journal throughout the year. If you would like to donate a box of tissue, stickers, glue sticks, and/or tape to our class that would be great. We will use these often throughout the year. I have a supply in my classroom for students to use – but any help I can get to add to these supplies will never be turned down. I also keep a supply of crayons, scissors, map pencils, and markers. (Once the markers dry out – then I will only supply map pencils and crayons. I will not be buying any more markers this year.)
The reason for the journals is for students to have a personalized set of notes of the math concepts and vocabulary we will be working on in class this year. Research also shows that when a lot of color is used, the brain receives the messages better. So I want students to add drawings and color, including stickers, to their notes.
Our school has a special log-in page – please make sure you are going to the appropriate sign-in page (not ixl.com).
A great site of videos explaining how to or about many areas of math, science, english, social studies, music, art, famous people, and more. Some videos are free – others require a paid account.
Practice word problems designed to give students practice for the upcoming Arkansas ACT Aspire tests for English, Reading, Science, and Math Classes.
Math online game in which students have to complete math problems to beat the monster’s after them.
The students will need to use their school email to create an account. Do a search for whatever topic the student needs to study (fractions, multiplication, rain forests, civil war battles, genres, music notes, Scotland, Arkansas facts, art styles, and this list could go on for a very long time...) – practice with flashcards, play scatter or gravity games, take practice tests, etc.
One of the two sites needed to play Kathoot to practice questions in all subjects. This is the site to either find previously made Kahoots or create your own. Accounts are free. The site to play the Kahoot is www.kahoot.it. To play, you will need TWO pages open or two different devices… If on same computer – it is best to put two screens side by side so the student can see the questions and answer choices on one side and they can click their answer on the other. (This can be played by one person or by a group.)
For students to add to math conversations
Many students from 3rd grade through 8th in our district have a username and password for this software. This math can be completed online on a PC or apps on iPads (can be downloaded from the iTunes Store.) (Not available on Android devices – yet...) For my students, the username is mathlionness. Once they find their name under the correct class, their password is the last four of their student ID (or their lunch number).
Free Videos, Lessons, and more for students to learn many subject areas – including math of all ages. Good for everyone!!!
This site donates 10 grains of rice for every correct answer a student completes. Students can practice middle school math, high school SAT practice, as well as many other subject areas, etc.
Do a search for the area of math (or any other subject) you are stuck in or wanting to learn – millions of videos in so many subjects – your learning is unlimited!!!
When you are stuck on a specific area of math – do a search… the answers are out there for those who really want to learn.
