Alumni News

Hello Fellow Alumni!

My aunt (Leva Murphy) and I have been brainstorming ways to cause trouble and get more young people interested in the alumni association.  One of the ideas we came up with was a mentorship program that would pair successful alumni from the community with high school seniors.  They would provide the student with advice on the college admissions process, scholarships, and other career paths.  The idea would be to pair students with people that chose a similar path (so students interested in trades would be paired with adults from that trade, etc.).  I know from recent personal experience that the process can be extremely overwhelming and it can help a great deal to have someone else (besides your parents) watching out for you!

I have already run the idea by Ms. Hyatt and Mr. Gilmore and they were both very excited about it.  Mr. Gilmore said most adults would need to provide a background check, but it would be free to them if they completed it through the superintendent's office.

I have started a list of people I believe would be qualified and interested in helping.  If you would like to be on the list, please contact my aunt, Mrs. Murphy, through the Eureka Springs Elementary.

I am very excited to start working on this!  Let me (or Aunt Leva) know as soon as possible if you are interested in helping.

Thank you,

Elizabeth Loudermilk
